Mission and working areas
• Comply a space of articulation between organizations representing family farmers and small farmers in the CPLP in order to deepen synergies, exchange experiences and information, to facilitate the search for convergence within the CPLP and to influence the global political agenda.
- Require that this platform is recognized as legitimate and essential for political dialogue in the CPLP Council of Food and Nutrition Security (CONSAN-CPLP) and in the process of implementation of the Strategy for Food Security and Nutrition in the CPLP (ESAN-PLP);
- Work towards strengthening the global alliance of small farmers and rural workers;
- Define a strategy and proposals for joint action to strengthen the participation of the members of this group in national networks of food sovereignty and in the Regional Network of Civil Society for Food and Nutrition Security in the CPLP (Redsan-CPLP);
• Strengthen institutional and organizational capacity of member organizations of the Farmer's Platform.
- Implement measures to strengthen technical capacity and self-management skills of the member organizations of the Platform;
- Work towards strengthening of mechanisms for capturing and structuring direct transfer of resources to the member organizations of the Platform, providing them with increased manageability and intervention capabilities;
• Work together towards 2014 - International Year of Family Farming, with platforms, farmer's movements and rural workers from other countries and regions in order to develop a common agenda.
- Support and participate in the implementation of the Campaign on 2014 - International Year of Family Farming at national level and within the CPLP;
- Find points of convergence towards a common agenda for strengthening family agriculture.

Analysis and monitoring of regional and global policies
- Conducting analysis of political actions which impact on family farming and food sovereignty from the perspective of the human right to food (CPLP Food Security Strategy; Free Trade Agreements and others);
Exchange of information and experiences on agroecological production methods and market access strategies
- Systematization and rescue traditional knowledge based on small farmers;
- Identification and systematization of experiences of local markets for small producers;
- Dissemination of environmental and social technologies of production and processing, simple and low cost to the family farm;
- Implementation of national, regional and global campaigns for defending family farming and the struggle for food sovereignty and the right to food;
